Today was Saint Patrick's day. I did the traditional things one does on this day. I wore green. I listened to Enya and the Cranberries. I did skip the Irish beer, I had work to do; maybe next year.
Saint Patrick's day is a feast day for the Roman Catholic Church and a Holy day of Obligation for Roman Catholics in Ireland. A Holy Day of Obligation is a day where the faithful are obliged to participate in the Mass. Moreover they are to abstain from those works and affairs which hinder the worship to be rendered to God, the joy proper to the Lord's day, or the suitable relaxation of mind and body. It seems that drinking green beer is not really on the agenda.
There was one other more important thing i learned. Until recently Saint Patrick was associated with the color blue. It seems like the revisionists have gotten a hold of his legend and chosen to diminish the man by associating him with the inferior color of green. I'll not have it. Saint Patrick wore blue. To honor the man and the saint he became, in the future i shall wear blue.
For those of you who wonder, the phrase "the wearing of the green" means to wear a shamrock on one's clothing.
Once again blue proves it is inherently superior than... in this case green and snakes, though the snakes were probably just druids anyway.
So enjoy your green, in celebration of this day i put the blue sheets on the bed to honor Patrick in these final fifty minutes of his day.
