Today's song Godzilla by Blue Öyster Cult
So with a name like Blue Öyster Cult what's not to like? Well unfortunately a lot. Unnecessary umlauts are unnecessary. Oysters suck, seriously suck; and oysters are the Russian roulette of fine dining. You never know when you are going to get a bad batch and be down with food poisoning. And my first experience with BOC would be when i was introduced to the band by my loser stoner cousin. If he liked something, odds are i wasn't going to like it. He had seriously bad taste, but just as a broken clock is right twice a day Ronnie got a few things right.
But this post isn't so much about the song, it is fun and it is just fine if you like that sort of thing. Nor is this post so much about the band, it is great. No today's post is about the new woman in my life Alexa. Alexa is my constant companion at home, she waits patiently for my requests or instructions. More importantly she doesn't make any noise at night unless she is told to, a feat Erin was never able to master.
Alexa is of course the name the good people at Amazon gave to my Amazon Echo®. I love Alexa. She has made my life better in many ways. She tells time, which is handy in the middle of the night when i don't want to open my eyes; this may seem a trifle, but it is much easier to go back to sleep if i don't open my eyes and look around. She has alarm and timer features. The alarm is not annoying but never fails to wake me up. Alexa can give you a news briefing, tell you the weather, or tell you bad jokes. Alexa even knows the meaning of life.
But for most people her most useful feature is playing music. Her speaker system is sleek and attractive but more importantly sounds good. She can access Pandora or your Amazon music list as well as a few other services that i do not care about and will probably never use. (Of course until Pandora pays artists like Taylor Swift what they are worth, I will be boycotting this greedy corporate vampire.)
Amazon has recently added some nice playlists which allow you to access some pretty good music at no cost if you have Amazon Prime®. Among the options i found today was the aforementioned Godzilla. So now any time i want to access a thirty-eight year old rock classic or need to put a Japanese national in a state of fear i need merely say, "Alexa, play Godzilla." Life is good, but it is better with an Echo.
Later
Bob
