Ambiguity is fun

Today's song:  Angry Johnny by Poe or Things I'll Never Say by Avril Lavigne

Today a change in punctuation completely changes the meaning which is why i left it out on Facebook.  With a dash I am invoking a lighthearted song of love, hopeful of a happy ending.  With three periods i invoke haunting memories of unresolved anger.  Without punctuation can be whichever song you think makes me look cooler, smarter, whatever positive adjective you care to insert. Although i did learn that Facebook will not let you use multiple spaces in your status line.  It collapses them into a single space.

Ambiguity is what lets us coexist.  If we all understood each other perfectly it would not lead to peace and harmony.  We hear what we wan to hear and give people the benefit of the doubt.  Without ambiguity we would be perfectly aware of the hostility, condescension, and contempt that permeate every day interactions.  Perfect communication would also cause us to realize how little most people know.

In my line of work i have to be cognizant of the ignorance of others, i can't drift blissfully though a landscape of hazy interaction.  Believe me, i'd rather live in the warm fuzzy world where i am free to think everyone thinks whatever i think.  This is what it is like to be a Democrat.  Unfortunately for us Republicans truth keeps intruding on our mental landscape.

I may return to this topic on a later occasion.  One when i am not surrounded by the unwashed masses.  It is possible that my contempt is impeding my ability to communicate.

  1. Ambiguity is similar to tolerance. If I know ambiguity is involved I can further sustain my ability to deal with the ignorant. And yet, I still feel the urge to kill rising.
