Today's song: Apache by The Tommy Seebach Band

Eight days ago i decided to pass on jokes about how being on drugs was necessary to appreciate 70's culture.  Now that debt has come due.  But first you'll need to do some homework, unless you are really up on your old internet memes.

Ok, the guitarist is pretty cheesy but then the camera pans over to the lead singer and we realize who the Tommy Seebach in the Tommy Seebach Band is.

Not sure what is most worthy of mockery.  The dancing girls?  The disco back-up singers?  Tommy? Tommy's dancing?  Tommy's mustache? The supervillian laugh?  At this point i am on overload.  This video does such a good job of mocking itself i think just posting it is enough.  Rather than list endless jokes i'll stick with expository writing here.

Seriously, i think marijuana is the lightest controlled substance you could be using to find any merit in the trash.  Maybe quaaludes help.  Quaaludes fell out of favor about the same time disco did.  I am going to go with quaaludes here. One slang term for quaaludes was disco biscuits. In the mid 1970s, there were special bars in Manhattan called juice bars that only served non-alcoholic drinks that catered to people who liked to dance on methaqualone. (Thanks wikipedia.)

In fact i have to think that many of the most ridiculous aspects of 70's culture can be explained by the Quaalude Theory.  The 60's remain accessible because modern hippies still smoke pot and drop acid.  The 80's will not fade as long as there is still one guy on Wall Street doing Coke.  But the last active quaalude user is an guy named Stu living in Springfield and he isn't blogging.  If using quaaludes leads to disasters like Apache, it is safe to say placing it on Schedule 1 in 1984 was a great idea.

Later

PS

At first i wasn't sure i'd be able to include this video because my link was broken and i didn't know the name.  But Adam was able to find it by searching for "ridiculous 70's video"
