Today's song: Bad to the Bone by George Thorogood and the Destroyers
This one was picked by Jason. He picked a good one and i'll let him speak for himself:
In the vein of the original intent of this project, my first request shall be George Thorogood - Bad to the Bone. It is a pretty good song, but I choose it because I will always associate it with Terminator 2. I doubt I will ever have a better movie experience than opening night of T2 on then Indiana's largest movie screen -- experienced in the best of company and with pockets full of ice cream, cheese, and soda.
There is a story here and it is a pretty good one. There is no way it can be relayed in detail. Rather than try to give a full accounting and inevitably fail, i'll relay some key details. This way i jog the memories of those who were there and let the rest of you know what you missed out on.
Terminator 2 was shown at Holiday 1 in Fort Wayne. At the time Holiday 1 was the largest screen in Indiana. This was in the days before Imax. We were fortunate enough to be able to attend the midnight showing. This was in the days before every movie had a midnight showing.
Before the show we went to Banditios to kill some time and get something to eat. The waiter could not use object words such as glass, plate, ect. Quite entertaining enough so that we left a 78% tip.
As always we stocked up on food before the show to eat during the show. Häagen-Dazs ice cream our weapon of choice. But on this night we had a little more, namely Kraft Parmesan Cheese. You haven't lived until you've had ice cream and cheese at a midnight showing of a major action film.
The movie was excellent. Political Correctness mandated that Linda Hamilton get to be a bad ass rather than flee in every scene this time out. In fact at the climax of the film Hamilton is on the cusp of finishing off the T-1000 when she runs out of ammo. At this point the audience erupts in cheers. She wasn't the star and she didn't get to finish off the big bad. That honor went to Arnold and we all knew it.
I don't have summers like that anymore. No more lazy summers filled with Putt Putt and Banana and Berry Crêpes, you can't even get crêpes at TCBY any longer. No more viewing fifty first run movies in a summer, hell there aren't fifty new movies i want to see in a year now. No more paying debts in 12 1/2 cent increments. No more dominating NBA Jam. Jason is right i'll never have a better movie experience not unless Skynet lets me borrow a its time machine.
Later
Bob
